Confederate States Army Civil War orders, 1865.

The collection consists of photostatic copies of three orders issued by Joseph E. Johnston and William T. Sherman at the surrender of Johnston's command in North Carolina. The first special order (Apr. 27, 1865), issued by Sherman, announces the surrender and may have been issued to the Confederate troops. On the same leaf, Johnston's special order No. 65 (called a circular) confirms Sherman's order. A copy of Johnston's order No. 18 (Apr. 29, 1865) discusses the logistics and terms of surrender. Order No. 22 (May 2, 1865) contains Johnston's farewell to his troops.
